Partnerships that drive impact
This year, our work has not only changed the lives of veterans and Service leavers but also boosted businesses across the UK. By offering tailored guidance, sector-specific insights, and practical tools, we have helped employers uncover the unique skills of the Armed Forces community. From customised events to strategic partnerships, our support has enabled organisations to develop inclusive recruitment strategies and access outstanding talent.
Building strong connections
Our Employer Engagement Team delivered 264 bespoke events attended by 4,126 participants, creating opportunities for employers to meet Service leavers and veterans, and learn how to integrate military talent into their workforce. These events are designed to go beyond introductions, offering employers practical advice and direct access to candidates ready to bring discipline, leadership and adaptability to civilian roles.
We also registered 3,186 new employer contacts, expanding our network and giving businesses the confidence to engage with military recruitment. This growth reflects a rising commitment among UK employers to support those transitioning from the Armed Forces, and we have been there every step of the way to guide them.
The CTP Employment Fairs were a notable achievement, with 12 events held across the UK from Plymouth to Elgin. Bringing together 748 employers and 3,040 Service leavers, these fairs provided employers with the opportunity to showcase roles, meet candidates face-to-face, and gain insights into the advantages of recruiting from the military community.
Innovative programmes for inclusive recruitment
The relaunch of Op PROSPER as Op ASCEND in February 2025 marked a new chapter in employer support. This Office for Veterans’ Affairs programme, awarded through the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust, enables businesses to develop clear pathways for veteran recruitment and progression. Our Key and Regional Account Managers have worked closely with HR teams and talent acquisition specialists to embed sustainable practices that benefit both employers and candidates. Through partnerships with companies like GlaxoSmithKline, we introduced initiatives such as biannual military insight days, shadowing placements, and targeted campaigns, resulting in 695 job applications from the Armed Forces community.
Sector-specific events, such as Pathways into Tech and Pathways into Construction and the Built Environment, highlighted careers in high-demand industries. These events supported 692 attendees and linked them with 84 companies, using a combination of face-to-face and online formats to reach a broader audience. Feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with one attendee saying:
“An outstanding opportunity to engage with sector professionals, I enjoyed all the panel discussions, each one crafted to deliver a varied view from the panellists. The networking session was also fantastic. The organisers deftly moved candidates around to meet potential employers and recruiters and were always on hand to chat through opportunities. I cannot recommend these events enough.”
Measurable impact for employers
Our Op ASCEND support has assisted 426 employers across eight sectors, enhancing recruitment, retention, and career advancement for veterans. These initiatives have created opportunities for thousands and boosted business performance by bringing in talent known for leadership, resilience, and problem-solving.
Tom Glennie of Close Brothers said,
“It has put veteran recruitment on the map for our internal stakeholders and hiring managers. They are now more aware of the benefits of hiring veterans.”
