Environmental, sustainability and carbon management statement

Our Commitment

The Forces Employment Charity is committed to delivering high‑quality services while minimising our environmental impact. In line with UK Government expectations for environmental stewardship and sustainability reporting.

We recognise waste, travel and energy consumption as our most material environmental impact areas, forming the core of our sustainability and carbon management priorities. Our approach is guided by mandatory UK frameworks emphasising data quality, proportionality, and continual improvement.

We will continue to identify practical opportunities to reduce our carbon footprint and embed sustainable behaviours across the organisation, our partners and our supply chain.

To achieve these commitments, we will:

  • Assess environmental risks and opportunities regularly, ensuring they are integrated into organisational decision‑making.
  • Manage our sites in a way that reduces negative environmental impacts and supports national net zero objectives.
  • Meet all applicable legal and regulatory requirements, while engaging with stakeholder expectations.
  • Allocate appropriate resources to environmental management processes and improvement initiatives.
  • Drive continuous improvement through evidence‑based targets, monitoring, and transparent reporting.

Commitment to Sustainability

We acknowledge our responsibility to support the UK’s transition to a more sustainable and resilient environment. Accordingly, we aim to:

  • Reduce waste, energy usage and greenhouse gas emissions
  • Promote responsible procurement and sustainable resource use, consistent with expectations for environmental and social value.
  • Encourage sustainable behaviours among staff, clients and partners.
  • Evaluate and improve our environmental performance through structured assessment and annual reviews.

Carbon Management Strategy

To support UK Government ambitions for net zero by 2050, we will implement a carbon management strategy focused on:

  • Energy Efficiency: Reducing energy use through efficient systems and low‑carbon technologies.
  • Sustainable Travel: Promoting public transport, car‑sharing, digital collaboration and low‑carbon travel options.
  • Waste Reduction: Expanding recycling, reducing single‑use materials and improving waste reporting.
  • Sustainable Procurement: Prioritising suppliers who can demonstrate strong environmental standards.
  • Green Workplace Practices: Encouraging paperless processes and resource-efficient offices.

Environmental Initiatives

We will:

  • Collaborate with organisations and networks working to strengthen environmental responsibility.
  • Engage in conservation initiatives and reduce our operational footprint.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental legislation and recognised best practice.

Promoting an Environmentally Sustainable Culture

We support increased staff understanding of climate science, sustainability standards and environmental responsibilities. Targeted workshops and training will help embed good practice across all teams. We will encourage the sharing of innovative environmental ideas and promote a culture of continuous improvement.

Compliance and Continuous Improvement

We are committed to operating efficiently, effectively and in line with UK Government expectations for sustainability reporting, including minimum carbon, waste and resource‑use requirements.

We will:

  • Ensure all staff uphold high standards of environmental care.
  • Maintain, monitor and regularly update a robust Environmental Policy.
  • Establish and review our baseline carbon footprint with measurable reduction targets toward 2030.
  • Reduce our wider environmental impact by improving energy efficiency, cutting waste, enhancing recycling and reducing travel emissions.
  • Engage and consult with stakeholders, welcoming feedback to strengthen our sustainability performance.

Policy Review

This statement will be reviewed annually to reflect evolving Government guidance and our organisational progress. Updated versions will be published on our website to ensure transparency and continued accountability.
