We support young people from military families

Support and guidance from people who truly understand military life

Growing up in a military family can mean moving often, living abroad, and spending time apart from loved ones. While these experiences can build resilience, they can also make education and career choices more challenging.

The Force Employment Charity offers free, personalised support to 16–24-year-olds whose parent or guardian, including reservists, served in the British Armed Forces. Our Advisors, many with military family experience, help you build confidence and take your next steps, wherever you are.

Challenges we can help you navigate

You don’t need to face things alone. We can support you if you’ve experienced:

  • Frequent moves or changes of school
  • Gaps in education or work
  • Limited access to career advice
  • Living overseas
  • Time away from a parent due to service or deployment
  • Bereavement
  • Being a young carer
  • Confidence or motivation challenges
  • Difficulty gaining work experience or building networks

We are here to work with you, not around you. Connecting you to tailored opportunities, practical support, and a community that understands your journey, so you can build confidence, discover your strengths, and take meaningful steps toward a brighter future.

Experience and opportunities

Work experience can make a real difference, but we know it’s not always easy to access, especially if you’ve moved frequently or lived overseas.

We work with a wide network of military-friendly employers to offer:

  • Work experience placements
  • Apprenticeships and training pathways
  • Graduate and early-career opportunities
  • In-person and virtual work experience, so location doesn’t limit you

Education and community

We also work with schools, colleges, and universities to support young people from military families.

We can deliver:

  • Employability and careers workshops
  • Support at school and college careers fairs
  • University outreach and Armed Forces-focused events
  • Sessions tailored specifically for young people from military families
My advisor helped me look at different apprenticeships and universities and write my CV ready to apply for part-time jobs. It’s been really helpful.
